CX5000 系列设备是一种 DIN 导轨安装式、无风扇嵌入式 PC，带与Beckhoff 总线端子模块或 EtherCAT 端子模块直接相连的直接接口。 与其它 CX 设备系列不同，CX5000 系列有固定数量的系统接口。 这一系列的外壳设计经过优化处理，坚固耐用、结构紧凑。 提供右侧扩展功能。 但是，通过 EtherCAT 集成可实现各种扩展能力。 其它主站/从站现场总线接口（ROFIBUS、CANopen、DeviceNet）或通讯接口（RS232，RS422/RS485）和通过 EtherCAT 访问的所有其它信号类型可通过 EtherCAT 直接与 EtherCAT 端子模块连接。

CX5000 带有两个独立的 Gigabit 以太网端口和四个 USB 2.0 接口。 可以通过 DVI 接口与 Beckhoff 控制面板或标准 DVI 显示器相连。 根据需要，也可添加一个串口（RS232/RS422/RS485）或具有主站或从站功能的现场总线接口作为一个可选的接口。

一块位于盖板后面并可从外部拆装的可互换的 CF 卡作为引导和存储介质。 CX5000 系列还内置了一个 1 秒钟 UPS，可确保在 CF 卡上安全备份持久性应用数据。 日期和时间通过可更换的电池缓存。

操作系统可以是 Windows CE 或嵌入式 Windows XP。 TwinCAT 自动化软件将 CX5000 系统转换为一个功能强大的 PLC 和运动控制系统，无论在带或不带可视化功能的情况下都可进行操作。
